About the Foundation

TCWLA has, since 1991, given grants to non-profit organizations protecting the legal rights of women and children. In 2002, TCWLA formed the Travis County Women Lawyers Foundation to serve as the official fundraising and grant-awarding arm of TCWLA. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The purpose of the Foundation is to “support, promote, and encourage activities for the furtherance of justice and equal opportunity for women, families, and children.”

In its decade of existence, the growth of the Foundation has been tremendous. Before 2007, the Foundation was giving less than $20,000 in grants to area nonprofit organizations. Today, the Foundation has more than tripled that amount, giving just shy of $65,000 in annual grants.

The Foundation has two primary means of raising funds:

Fellows. The Foundation is sustained by its “Fellows”—attorneys who pledge an annual donation for 10 years.

Luncheon. Each Spring, the Foundation co-hosts a luncheon with the Travis County Women Lawyers Association. Proceeds from the luncheon go directly to our grantees. The forum also serves as our opportunity to recognize women attorneys who have made significant contributions in the Travis County legal community. The event is a local favorite, attended by over 300 Central Texas lawyers each year.
